Sheldon High School or SHS is a 9th-12th grade college-preparatory high school located in Sacramento County, California, next to the city limits of Elk Grove, California. The school was established in 1997 as part of the Elk Grove Unified School District. == History == The name is from the town of Sheldon on Grant Line Road, active in gold activity of the 1850s on the Cosumnes River. Jared Dixon Sheldon, for whom the town was named, was an adventurer, entrepreneur, pioneer, and farmer of the Cosumnes River - Sloughhouse area. In 1844, Sheldon obtained the Rancho Omochumnes Mexican land grant. Seven years later, Sheldon was shot by gold miners who objected to the dam he had built to irrigate his crops because it flooded their claims.
